Mumbai: Maharashtra's capital Mumbai continues to receive rainfall on Thursday. The city has been experiencing showers and lightning since Wednesday evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said there is a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied with occasional gusty winds at isolated places in the city and its suburbs today. Central Maharashtra is also predicted to receive heavy rainfall today. Heavy rainfall triggered water logging in parts of Mumbai, including Sion Police Station and King's Circle areas. The weather department has issued a red alert for north Konkan, Mumbai and Thane. • National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has deployed two teams in Maharashtra. While one has been deployed in Latur, the second has been stationed in Solapur for rescue operations. • Heavy rainfall in Baramati has led to a flood-like situation in the area. • Due to incessant rains, Savitribai Phule Pune University has postponed the online and offline examinations scheduled for today. The university will announce the revised schedule later. • As per the latest bulletin of IMD, Strong wind speed reaching 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph is very likely to prevail over central Maharashtra during the next 12 hours and gradually decrease thereafter. • Rainfall is expected to cause damage is to paddy crops, banana, papaya trees, drumstick trees and horticultural crops. • The low lying areas are expected to experience serious problems of flooding/waterlogging, which would lead to disruption of surface transport. • Due to well-marked low pressure area over Maharashtra, light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places would occur over Konkan, Goa and adjoining ghats of Maharashtra. • The coastal areas of south Gujarat is expected to receive heavy downpour today. Pune received heavy rainfall on October 14 and is expected to receive more downpour with thunderstorm in the next couple of days. The ghat areas of Pune district are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today and Friday. Due to heavy showers, water entered into the residential areas of Baramati. Flood-like situation has occurred in Nimgaon Ketki village and the administration has rescued around 40 people. Due to heavy rains, traffic on Pune-Solapur Highway was affected on Wednesday. As per IMD Mumbai, north Konkan area is likely to experience thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thunderstorm/lightning and extremely heavy rainfall alert have been issued for south Konkan region. The weather department has said that north central Maharashtra and south central parts of the state are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Maharashtra’s Marathawada region is likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied with lightning at isolated places. As per the latest IMD bulletin, the Depression over north interior Karnataka and adjoining areas of Maharashtra moved west-northwestwards and weakened into a well marked low pressure area over south central Maharshtra and neighbourhood. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and emerge into eastcentral Arabian Sea off Maharashtra coast around October 16 morning. It is very likely to intensify into a Depression during subsequent 24 hours over east central and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea off Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremelyin parts of Mumbai, Palghar and Thane on Thursday, October 15.IMD’s Mumbai centre has issued the warning for over 15 districts of the state, including Kolhapur, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Osmanabad.IMD has issued a red alert (extremely heavy rain) for districts including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri on Thursday.The weather bureau has issued orange alert, predicting thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/ gusty winds and very heavy rain at isolated places in Satara, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg today. The state is expected to receive heavy showers till October 16.Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Sea along and off Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts and over east central and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea from October 15 onwards for the subsequent 3 days.
